She is one of the lucky ones

Surrounded by family and friends

She is one of the lucky ones

Who’s battle comes to an end

She’ll beat the cancer strongly

Be given a new lease on life

Go back to being a Mother

Go back to being a Wife

She’ll do this with the help of strangers

Who never knew her name

But walked the distance for her

Not looking for fortune or fame.

Just hoping to stop the madness

To help find that elusive cure

If we can put a man on the moon

Then breast cancer should be no more.

That day will come, but until then

I’ll walk with thousands of others

Who walk for those who can’t do so

Who walk for our daughter’s and Mothers

With your support I can do this

60 miles over three long days

We’ll make some strides for research

With the millions that we’ll raise.

Closing ceremonies is emotional

As we all raise up a shoe

In honor of those who could not walk

I walk for me and you.

Each one of us has seen her

In the mall or at the park

Saw her playing with her children

It’s enough to break your heart.

She is a woman with a tumor

That she hoped and prayed was fine

She is a woman with a tumor

She is told is NOT benign.

She runs her fingers through her hair

And sighs as she sees the strands

That once were on head of hair

Are now within her hands…

She’s brave but she is scared

She wants to be the one to win

And when she goes to bed at night

The fear comes flooding in

Her children sleeping sweetly

Husband snoring by her side

She puts her face against her pillow

And begins to softly cry

Tomorrow is a new day

She’ll find her way to sleep

She’ll wake the kids and walk the dog

Daylight brings no time to weep.

She’ll go to her treatment promptly

Pick up milk on her way home

Surround herself with family

And yet, at times, still feel alone

If each and every one of us

Followed the rules of the road

Good times and good intentions

The circle never ends

He’s waited months to see

They share the same thoughts

And won’t let us in

But they deserve that

This is just them

So we’ll all sit back

In amazement and smile

As the horse and the child

Go ride for a while

And when they return

Both full of such joy

We thank God for the horse

We thank God for the boy

J is bound for great things

His heart is pure

He’s here for a reason

Of that I am sure

In fact I’m quite certain

A better person I am

Just having known

This endearing young man.

If just for a moment

I could see what he sees

When he rocks and he laughs

And he watches the bees

He might not ride bikes

He might not play ball

But Jason Michael

Sees the best in us all

His motions, His words

Not as free as the rest

But his character and motives

Are simply the best

He’s sometimes so silly

He’ll rock or he’ll roll

There are times I am certain

He sees into my soul

Too see J on his horse

Sitting tall, feeling free

Is seeing the world

The way it should be

A child and a horse

Speaking words we can’t hear

But between them, just them

It’s perfectly clear
